Dr. Lesley Chan 陳家曦博士

Dr Lesley Chan 陳家曦博士 Dr. Chan is a Hong Kong-born choral conductor and composer. He is particularly competent in composing Chinese choral music and in training youth and adult choirs. He is of the view that excellent choirs should possess high standard vocal techniques and place emphasis in vocal training. Dr Chan is often being invited to give lectures at home and abroad, including Beijing, Shanghai & St. Petersburg. At the invitation of choral conductor and composer maestro Vytautus Miškinis, Dr. Chan had also given lectures at the music teachers’ summer training camp in Lithuania.

In the past decade, Dr. Chan has led the award-winning Wah Yan College, Kowloon Boys’ Choir in many performances and competitions outside Hong Kong. A number of championship and prizes had been won on these occasions, which include performances at Shanghai World EXPO, The National Center for the Performing Arts (Beijing), World Choir Games (2010, Shaoxing and 2012, Cincinnati), Pusan Choral Festival (Korea), Cork International Choral Festival (Ireland) and Vocal Master Classes in Italy. In July 2016, the Choir as led by Dr. Chan participated in the 17th International Choral Kathaumixw in Canada and won five prizes, including the “Choir of the World at Kathaumixw Award”. Later in the same month, the choir went to U.S.A. and performed as a resident choir in the International Choral Festival in Missoula.

Dr. Chan is a graduate of the University of Hong Kong. He gained his MMus in Historical Musicology from the University of London, Professional Diploma in Music (Composition) from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and DMus from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He studied composition with Law Wing-Fai, Clarence Mak and Wendy Lee. He also received vocal training from Isabel Gentile and Roberto Abbondanza. Dr. Chan’s earlier Chinese choral composition ”Ripples” has been published by the Hong Kong Composers’ Guild. His two other compositions “Resurrection Grass” and “Boundary” have been selected for performance by different local and overseas choirs. In 2015, Dr. Chan was awarded the Jebsen & Co. Choral Arts Youth Scholarship.

Dr. Chan is committed to contributing to the community through music and his experience. He is the resident conductor of The Pro-Musica Society of Hong Kong and an Examiner of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council.

香港合唱指揮及作曲家,擅長創作中文合唱作品及訓練青年與成人合唱團,深信一隊優秀的合唱團必須擁有良好的發聲技術及聲樂訓練。經常獲邀於海內外講學,包括北京、上海、聖彼德堡及曾接受合唱及作曲大師米斯基尼 (Vytautus Miškinis) 邀請,前往立陶宛音樂教師暑期訓練營授課。

過去十年帶領九龍華仁書院男聲合唱團,參與世界各地演出與比賽,屢獲殊榮,包括上海世博、北京國家大劇院音樂教育系列音樂會、世界合唱比賽(2010紹興、2012辛辛那提)、韓國釜山合唱節、愛爾蘭科克合唱節及意大利聲樂大師班。2016年7月帶領該團赴加拿大參加第17屆卡塔苗國際合唱節(International Choral Kathaumixw)比賽贏得五個獎項,包括《卡塔苗世界合唱團大獎》。該團亦於同月赴美國,擔任美國密蘇那 (Missoula)國際合唱節駐節合唱團。

畢業於香港大學音樂系,並先後獲頒英國倫敦大學音樂碩士(歷史音樂學)、香港演藝學院音樂專業文憑(作曲)及香港中文大學音樂博士(作曲)。隨羅永暉、麥偉鑄及李允琪研習作曲,易曼君及 Roberto Abbondanza 學習聲樂。近期中文合唱作品《水紋》、《還魂草》及《圍》於海內外由不同國家合唱團演出,前者更由香港作曲家聯會出版。2015年獲頒發捷成洋行青年合唱藝術家獎學金。
